You.i Engine One | Redbox – Creating a High-Quality Solution
In addition to its physical presence at over 43,000 rental locations across America, Redbox offers a convenient subscription-free streaming service, Redbox On Demand. When it was time to move away from their legacy white-label solution, Redbox looked for an application development framework that would improve time to market, product quality, and reduce overall costs. Lowell Bike, Director of Product Management at Redbox, explains how You.i Engine One delivered across these three criteria and more:
The first and most challenging build was for Roku, which resulted in the industry’s first Roku application to be built based on React Native. After a successful certification and launch, Redbox extended the Roku codebase to quickly roll-out apps for Android TV and Amazon Fire TV. With a fast time-to-market, Redbox saw improvements across all KPIs including crash-free sessions (up to 99.9%), playback quality, buffering rate, and video start rates.
“You only get one shot with a brand new product,” said Lowell Bike, Director of Product Management at Redbox. “If you want a solution that is fully customizable, available on any number of platforms you desire, I think You.i [You.i Engine One] is the solution for you.”
